Aschenputtel

$54.00

The Brothers Grimm recorded their version of Perrault’s tale in the 19th century.  Their version is indeed more grim and is the inspiration for Sondheim’s Cinderella in “Into the Woods.”  Aschenputtel does not have a fairy godmother but a magic tree and a white bird that grant her wishes.  She went to great lengths to meet her curfew, hiding in the estate pigeon coup and climbing a tree to hide from the prince.  He covered the steps in tar to stop her from leaving.  When her shoe was stuck in the tar, he had his clue to find her.

Aschenputtel is constructed of recycled wool and wears an ensemble of vintage handkerchief and recycled silk necktie.  She stands approximately 10” tall.
