Frances Oldham Kelsey was a Canadian-American pharmacologist credited with keeping thalidomide off the market in the US, thus sparing thousands of infants from severe birth defects.  Kelsey was a reviewer for the FDA, and had serious concerns that there was not sufficient evidence regarding the drug’s safety.  Among many other awards an accomplishments, she was the second woman to receive the President’s Award for Distinguished Federal Civilian Service.

Kelsey is constructed of recycled wool and wears pants made from a silk tie. She stands approximately 10” tall.
