Micajah Burnett and his family joined the Pleasant Hill Shaker Society when he was 17 years old. By the age of 22, he had reconstructed the layout of the whole village. He oversaw the construction of the family dwelling houses, the Meeting House and most of the other structures in the village. He designed the first public waterworks system west of the Allegheny Mountains, supplying all of the dwellings, shops and barns with running water. His most famous design is that of the twin spiral staircases that appear to ascend unsupported in the Trustee’s House at Pleasant Hill. He died at the age of 87.
Micajah is constructed and dressed in recycled wool, and stuffed with denim. He stands approximately 10” tall.
