Pearlie Posey spent her early days working on a plantation in Mississippi. Her mother and grandmother taught her to quilt, and she passed the skill to her daughter, Sarah Mary Taylor. She is best known for appliqué quilts featuring human and animal figures in the storytelling tradition. Her work is featured at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the American Folk Art Museum.
