Sarah Mary Taylor was a housekeeper, cook, and field hand until failing health forced her retirement. She then turned to quilting for an income. Her mother, Pearlie Posey, had taught her to appliqué and was helpful in designing patterns for her. Sarah Mary’s work gained national attention in the 70s , and she was commissioned to create a quilt for the movie “The Color Purple.“ Her work has been displayed in museums across the country.
