Eunice

$65.00

Eunice Newton Foote was the first scientist to determine that rising carbon dioxide levels would change atmospheric temperature, affecting climate. Her 1856 paper on the subject was the first known publication in a scientific journal by an American woman in the field of physics. She published a second paper in 1857 on static electricity in atmospheric gases. There would not be another physics paper published by an American woman until 1889. Nearly 100 years after her death, it was discovered that she was actually the first scientist to demonstrate the greenhouse effect involving infrared radiation.

Eunice is handstitched using a recycled wool sweater. A swirling pattern on the sweater coordinates with the pattern on the vintage handkerchief that she wears. She is stuffed with recycled denim and stand approximately 13 inches tall.
