Zephyr Wright was a civil rights activist and person chef to Presiden Lyndon B. Johnson and his family. Through her friendship with Johnson, she was able to share her experiences under Jim Crow laws. This had a significant impact on the President, and ultimately informed his passing of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. She was present at the signing and at the conclusion of the ceremony he presented Zephyr with the pen he used to sign it saying, “You deserve this more than anyone else.”
Zephyr is constructed of recycled cotton and stuffed with recycled denim. She wears one of my favorite blouses that a stain forced into my scrap pile. Zephyr stands approximately 12” tall.
